GivingTuesday 2023: Good Grants gives back

by | Dec 4, 2023 | Article

Our team at Good Grants loves GivingTuesday! This global movement, which reimagines a world built upon shared humanity and generosity, provides an organised opportunity for us to take a moment in our busy lives to give back.

As a fully remote, globally distributed company, we work in communities across the globe—from Brisbane to Budapest, from remote Pacific islands to major European hubs. Every year, GivingTuesday inspires us to stop the hustle, slow down, and give our time and financial resources to causes near and dear to our hearts—and doorsteps.

How we gave back on GivingTuesday

On 28 November 2023, the entire world came together for GivingTuesday to do good. We helped our neighbors, cared for our communities, and proved that, when we take action together, we can change our world through radical generosity.

For the community

Rhenan (Sales)
Philippines

“A small, poor community near where I currently live is working on the construction of their chapel. I have tried to extend support to them in my own way — to make their dream a reality. So, last Saturday, I donated 100 bags of cement..”

For education

Narelle (sales)
Uganda

“I chose to donate to the Esuubi Foundation in Uganda. I volunteered onsite there back in 2018 and now volunteer from afar. They do incredible work, are completely independent and focus on lifetime education for the kids and the school and orphanage and the community as a whole, as well as a lot of health and economic initiatives.”

For food security

Diya (client success)
UK

“I helped at the local Foodbank shop. They’ve recently opened a shop (of all the donated things), which is open to low-income families, as a membership. This is to offer them some dignity of choosing what they want instead of being handed out care packets. It was a humbling experience for sure; me standing there wearing my £80 Arsenal jersey whereas these people paying £10 to feed their families for a week.”

Lindsay (marketing)
Hungary

“This weekend, we attended a Food not Bombs cook session. We brought the whole family and a friend and chopped loads of veggies, which were gathered from local markets at the end of a day (that they would have thrown out) and cooked up a big vat of vegetarian goulash, which was then delivered to shelters across the Debrecen area to help feed people and families in need.”

For families in need

Brandee (operations)
Thailand

Brandee supported a family in her local community, who recently lost their parent and is in danger of losing the family business. “The event we held for the family’s bar/restaurant on Thursday night was a HUGE success. Can you believe they sold out of all food and alcohol??? They had a lovely band there that usually plays Rasta-style music or Western pop songs from 10+ years ago because that’s the standard here when the tourists come back. But, they looked around and noticed there weren’t many tourists, so they started to play music that was local to our island, from the Chao Ley (Sea Gypsy)… Long story short, Creative Force contributed a lot to save this one local family and the ripple effect is huge. Not only did it help the family, but it’s spread a little-known culture to new people and brought music and happiness to many.”

Kanishka (engineering)
Sri Lanka

As he does every year now, Kanishka gave groceries to 50 families in need in his community. “This time, we avoided the supermarkets and [purchased the orders] from a small grocery store. They gave us a discount because they also wanted to support this. Thanks to that, we were able to add 10 more families to the list than last year.”

For our neighbours in need

Leny (operations)
Philippines

“This year, I’ve chosen to support the people who keep on inspiring me. I see them in the neighbourhood, in the street, in the market.. though struggling with their physical or mental impairment, they continue to survive and turn “disability” into “this-ability”.
